These 2 designs were inspired by traditional japanese ornemental symbols: fans and koi fishes and reinter- preted. The fabrics were woven in Kyoto, on looms that originally weave obi belts (large belts worn on top of kimonos) with silk yarns.

Ohba is a obi belt weaver from Kyoto’s historical textile district, Nishijin. Ohba weaves kimono belt since 1958 in Nishijin, the well known textile district of Kyoto, but is now shifting his company in order to reach new markets such as the interior textiles industry. For Ohba I designed these 2 patterns which are woven on 140 cm wide looms and can be treated with a fire retardant solution in order to be suitable for contract projects such as public spaces, restaurant, hotels, etc...
